that's coming up in just a bit. guys? >> la thank you very much. we are following breaking news from overnight. police in are looking into a deadly shooting. this was the scene here on tailor avenue in ft. washington. officers showing up to art re shooting after 10:30. they found a man with a gunshot wound but it was too late to reve him. investigators a working out what pled to the shooting and so far no suspes have been named. we're staying on top of a developing story out of reston, virginia. police are trying to track down a suspected hit-and-run driver iblieved respo for killing a 16-year-old boy. >> it happened last night on south lakes dri at castle rock square around 5:45. witnesses say the teenager had just gotten off thend bus was crossing the street when he was hit. the driver didn't stop and right now police don't have much information about the driver. >> the only information that we have right now is that iwas a

sedan that was the striking vehicle. we have no color.th we have no information on the vehicle, unfortunately, at ayis time. police the car involved should have front end damage. new this morning, a maryland man facing charges after a deadly multivehicle crash up in new yo city. poli say sherman harrison of upperarlborough crashed into several cars in the tribeca neighborhood. one car flipped and caught on fire. while officials were extinguishing the re, they discovered an unconscious woman inside. she was pronounced dead. harrison tried to flee the scene according to police but he was later arrested. he was taken to the hospital and faces charges including daughter. we're learning more about a brutal murdehe of a m in front of a rockville church and now her 21-year-old son is charged with killing her. police say he stabbed his mother to death at st. rafael catholic

new develop a pregnant woman set on fire in prince george's county. a second man won't be facing charges. according to wtop, prosecutors is dropped charges against jonathan edward miller on friday. it's unclear why thees cha were dropped. a jury acquitted la quinnph lips who was charged with attacking the woman. the woman was pregnant when the attack happene last year. phillips is the father of the baby. she delivered her baby early and suffered severe burn terrifying moments at bwi urgood marshall airport after a passenger loading bridge failed sending six people to the hospital. paramedics were helping a woman with a medical situation get off the southwest flight. airport officials say that's when there was an issue with the equipment on the movable connector from the airport terminal to the plane. the flight just arrived from bwi from the dominican republic. tnesses describe the incident as traumatic. >> about two seconds after she walked out there was this loud

crash. it was traumatic and everybody rushed to the front of the plane and the flight attendants were like please sit down and nobody knew what was going on. >> that's frightening. six people were taken to a nearby hospital. they're expected to recover. he incident remains under investigation. several fire companies banded together to battle a two-alar fire at a warehouse in upper marlborough and flames shot through the roof of a warehouse at b & k rental at old marlboro pike.io po of the structure collapse the damage estimated to be about $1.5 million. prince george's county fire was helped out by oth fires and d.c. fire. no word on a cause there. there is a pretty contentious back-and-forth over a medical marijuana dispensary in prince george's county. some protesters, including those from connect church, held signs yesterday on allentown way in camp springs. connect church used to be locate there had next to the proposed

dispenhry. the chuut a summer day camp across the street from it. prince george'county prohibits medical cannabis dispensaries from being within 500 feet of churches and day cares. the church's pastor says the camp is 300 feet away which makes it illega >> nothing is going on on the county level. we need to get to the bottom of it and somebody needs it.'s thhy we're protesting today. >> church leaders say prince george's county has not stepped up andulled the dispensary's permit. the dispensary hasn't spoken out about the protest. new year's eve is just a day away. the silver ride program isg gearinup. the washington regional alcohol program in parership with lyft will be offering rides for those looking to get around safely. theober ride program operates overnight from 8:00 to 4:00 in the morning until new year's day. so far, over 400 sobber rides

if you're headed on the farm today and itdr will be partly sunny skies, temperatures on the chilly side. low 30s and low 40s right now and we are headed into the mid to up 4s. yesterday we made it up to 58. today 48 degrees so 10 degrees below where we were yesterday but dry. partly sunny skies out there. itill be a nice day out there. and, again, a few more clouds out there compared to yesterday. yesterday was gorgeous so any weekend activities going on, travel, we have rain to thegh south thr georgia and the gulf coast. you want to take those decorations down, take those trees to the goat farm, we're looking nice and dry for the redskins gameaking on the eagles. we have to gin thise to keep the eagles out of the playoffs. so mid-40s and dry as well.

good morning. i'm pat lawson muse. they haven't put a single shovel into the ground for the new amazon hq 2 but you could say the earth beneath the real estate market in virginia has alread moved. early numbers suggest a significant spike in home sales. it's a good news/bad news story depending on your position in themarket. northern virginia bureau reporter david culver and chuck be with us this morning to tack about amazon and, yes, the ather. >> we can do that. we will blend these two things somehow. >> let's start in. virgin there have been all kinds of predictions about amazon's impact on the area. what we're seeing already is pretty significant. >> we've seen forecasting for several months leading up to this. now we have actual numbers. so november 13 you recall w en amazon announced officially they would choose northern virginia adds one of their hq 2 locanons, specifically area they're calling national

anding, crystal city pentagon city. what we're seeing in those early numbers compared th this time last year is a spike in home sales of 633%. so homes that we n put under contract, around 22 in november compared with three last zip codein that one that comprises national landing. what's more is we'reglso see drew truly a dotcom, they're seeing a massive spike, it goes up lik a roller coaster when it looks at people looking at this area. >> and are buyers looking for deals finding deals? >> not exactly. this area is so expensive as it is. thfis was the problem when my other half and i were looking up for homes. we were in the logan circle and sh neighborhoods and those neighborhoods are being flipped over, we've had offers on three

houses before the one we ended up landing on and every one we had offers on we weren't even close to the highe bid. they were getting 10 and 12 bids per a listing as a result you'd have to put in contingency clses to put an escalation into the price. i bid a million bucks but go up to a million and a quarter and then the realtor would hav to g through and sift out the best offers and -- it really pushed the price up fast. >> is it a trend, vid? they think it will be short lived and real estate experts m referringto. and financial experts, too.pl you have p looking from other parts of the country saying we'll go in as an investment property, they call up realtors here, they realize an investmen property wil start at $750,000, $800,000nd en need renovations, they don't have the capital so they'reulling back from that.

and they believe because the work force coming in that will mostly be millennial, that this work force will rent for several yes and then look into putting money into single family homes. >> the other down side here would be residents who fear losing their homes because of rising costs,ecause their neighborhoods are changing and all these other things that wila ppen, traffic. >> it's been a huge concern. specifically when you look at the area that the alexandria/arlington border over mt. vernon avenue past delray. that's heavily latino and that population is concerned about eventuly beingrice out. they're seeing rents already skyrocket and you add to that a greater demand for fol making $150,000 plus a year, that will compromise the positionre currently in and holding on to the homes they have. >> lots of anxiety. plenty of it to go around. another thinghat caused anxiety here is the weather. 2018 is officially the wettest

here in washington. breaking record set more than a century ago. will this wet pattern continue and how might that play out in the months to come? check, we've not only seen record 'rrain, seeing warm weather for december. >> december will go down. there will be threes monis calendar year that will have been colder than average. november wasone, mar was one and may was one. the warmth -- we'll be about a degree and a half abo t average fo year in total which isn't crazy warm, it's still one of our top five or six warmest years on record but the real amazing partea about this has been the rainfall. it just has not just been a an time record breaker but we've broken the record on fewer rainy days. we've hadr 30 feiny days than the old record we broke. that means not only will we get the rainy days, we've had 23 days that have had more than inch of rain on a single day.

hat's an all-time record for heavy precipitation days so it's come down in buckets and the folks inic et city hard hit again with flooding. the hurricane season did aer nun north carolina and florida once again with heavy rain events. wilmington, north carolina, over 101 inches of rain for the yearm 25 in just a one-week period with hurricane but even without that rain they still would have broken their annual rainfall record so the rainfall has been something and that's something -- obviously it's climate change related. the warmer atmosphere can hold more wat vapor and make more rain so there is a correlation. no one year says that's climate change. but these type of record we ar breaking 10 record high for every one record low we break and these rainfl records keep falling over and over and over again. >> so do we expect more of this extreme weather, threatening

weather? >> well, our old friend the polar vortex is showing s wobbling our direction in january. that doesn't tend to be a wet pattern, it tends to be cold and cold doesn't have a tendency to have moisture with it so i think we'll get a break from the intense amount of rain in the early parts of the year. this could lead to a better chance forsnow. we had our earliest inch of snow in more than 30 years this past november so that was an interesting thing for >> and people are hoping for more. >> this one in particular i know. we haven't had a big snow event since january of 2016 blizzard. it's been a long tine c and the other thing that's been interesting, onlyix times in 140 years has march been colder than february and now we've done in the back-to-back years so we'll see if we do three aears in row with march colder than

issues within the commonwealth and as of now it seems le this is a start. the gop still controls things so we'lliree what t take is on it. the neral assembly reconvenes on january 9 with epublicans controlling bot houses but democrats have made gains so some of the other bills that -- some of the bills that stand out this session, there is a bill to ban discrimination in housing. tell us about that. >> what's interesting is there's alady certainrotections when it comes to discriminatory housing laws. this would streamline things and allow for civil action to be taken against a landlord or somebody who is refusing to rent to an individua and it would allow this to go right to the attorney general who could then take this civil action. also, it's interesting to point out there are protections when it comes to afford sable housin

quickly and they're valuable ank sold qui on the street. one of the biggest weather storhes for us was flood in ellicott city. >> twice in two years. they say a thousand year flood, housand yearhave a flood twice in two years. it's about statistical probabilities. it's not every thousand years you get it, it's just that the's a .1% chance of that happening in a given year, that's a thousand-to-one odd. so that's where that thousand-year flood thingomes from. ellicott city is in a bad spot a graphically and they put lot of construction on the top of the hill above ellicott city. and so now you have an impermeable surface, paved concrete andll that so the amount of water that runs dow main street is a far greater volume of water than it was whe it was a grassy hillside above it. the city i council having issues with do we allow businesses to rebuild again and again and again or do we then have to maybe have flood doors
